You know, Country & Western!

This ain't your Dad's country music. It's your Granddad's! None of that new Nashville bullshit either. This is where you'll find what I consider the best in Country (Classic and Alt), Folk, and Americana.

Roy Acuff - Old Three Room Shack

Starting a new thing here for the next 6 months or so: The Country Side of John Peel. If you don’t know of Mr. Peel, he was a highly influential DJ in the UK for many years until his death in 2004.

The Space is showcasing portions of his vast record collection (26,000 albums, 40,000 singles and countless CDs), which he cataloged meticulously. I’ll be going though the selections and highlighting the C&W portions, which are slim so far, but present nevertheless. Too bad Cabaret Voltaire never made a industrial noise record with some twang. Anyhow, I let it go for a few weeks just to ensure that there’s material and so far it looks like there is.

Peel had a rating system and I’ll try to keep posts to songs he took the time to like. Far as I can tell, a Roy Acuff compilation called Steamboat Whistle Blues was the only country title in the As and this song received 2 stars, which was pretty good by his standards.

Enjoy!
