You know, Country & Western!

This ain't your Dad's country music. It's your Granddad's! None of that new Nashville bullshit either. This is where you'll find what I consider the best in Country (Classic and Alt), Folk, and Americana.

1) Porter looks like he’s gonna kill someone.
2) This reminds me of old trading card sets with the stickers that were outlined ala.
3) Who wants to make a trading card set with me?

Hank Williams was buried today on 1/4/53.

His funeral drew more than 20,000 people in Montgomery, Alabama. A country choir led by Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe, Webb Pierce, Red Foley, Little Jimmy Dickens and Carl Smith performed “I Saw The Light.” as heard in this clip.

Starting a new thing here for the next 6 months or so: The Country Side of John Peel. If you don’t know of Mr. Peel, he was a highly influential DJ in the UK for many years until his death in 2004.

The Space is showcasing portions of his vast record collection (26,000 albums, 40,000 singles and countless CDs), which he cataloged meticulously. I’ll be going though the selections and highlighting the C&W portions, which are slim so far, but present nevertheless. Too bad Cabaret Voltaire never made a industrial noise record with some twang. Anyhow, I let it go for a few weeks just to ensure that there’s material and so far it looks like there is.

Peel had a rating system and I’ll try to keep posts to songs he took the time to like. Far as I can tell, a Roy Acuff compilation called Steamboat Whistle Blues was the only country title in the As and this song received 2 stars, which was pretty good by his standards.

Enjoy!
