Both Kinds of Music

Elwood: What kind of music do you usually have here?
Claire: Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western.
- The Blues Brothers

This ain't your Dad's country music. It's your Granddad's! None of that new Nashville bullshit either.

Both Kinds of Music digs deep to find musical ephemera from Country Legends, Seasoned Pros and Fresh Upstarts.

So I’m a little behind on my TV, like 10 years. I knew Steve Earle was in Treme, but didn’t know he was on The Wire. He’s not the best actor, but probably isn’t too far from his character, Walon.

I’m at the ass end of Season 1 so I’ve got a ways to go to see what happens.

Rodney Crowell - Bluebird Wine

With some other punk kid (Earl Somethingorother, never really did amount to much) playing with him.

“Well, it’s a military town, and I grew up during the Vietnam War. So that meant when I was fifteen years old, my dad had to suffer through me ending up on the six o’clock news on a flatbed trailer in front of the Alamo singing “I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-to-Die Rag” at a Vietnam Veterans Against the War rally. He was an air traffic controller, so he heard about it at work. And I heard about it at home.” — Steve Earle, on growing up in San Antonio

Over production aside (and what’s with the piano?), this is that kind of day.

Steve Earle - The Devil’s Right Hand

This spotify app is killer, but really showing how shitty some cover art is these days. Put that deluxe edition in small type on a thin band along the bottom.

Can you listen to the song if you don’t have Spotify? Has this change made you get it?
