You know, Country & Western!

This ain't your Dad's country music. It's your Granddad's! None of that new Nashville bullshit either. This is where you'll find what I consider the best in Country (Classic and Alt), Folk, and Americana.

Vince Gill & Patty Loveless - Go Rest High On That Mountain [Live][George Jones’ Funeral]

“It’s my belief they don’t make those shoes anymore.” Amen, Vince. This performance broke my heart.

I missed this live. It’s a heartbreaker.

George Jones - A Picture of Me (Without You)

What country music fans look like today.

Well, damn. You think your heroes will live to be 100 years old. Not for them, but for you. You want to know they’ll be around as a reminder that everything’s OK.

Everything’s not OK today.

George Jones, you’re the greatest country music singer the world has ever known.

Rest in peace, Possum. Hope you’re not a No Show to the Pearly Gates.

Bob Dylan - I Want You

You ever listen to a song? I mean really get deep into it and become aware of how all the instruments fit together to create the song? I’ll confess, I don’t do it much. I mean there’s Clapton’s guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which you normally don’t hear until he solos, but it’s there the entire time.

Then there’s your Nashville session musician, like Hargus “Pig” Robbins, who did a ton of work on well known songs. He’s really apparent in say, White Lightning or the signature sound of Behind Closed Doors, but Dylan keeps his bouncy tone as part of the whole ensemble so you don’t really hear it unless you listen for it. But it’s this essential professionalism that got him inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame last year.

All of this just to say Happy 75th Birthday to ol’ Pig.
